Williams Lake: Station House Gallery in funding crisis

The arts were front and centre in promoting the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver this winter but just two months after that big event the arts are back in the proverbial closet.

The Station House Gallery manager and society are struggling to pay their bills and staff this month because the gaming grant they were expecting in early April hasn’t yet arrived.

Gallery manager Diane Toop learned last week, by accident, that the grant won’t be arriving until sometime in June.

Toop says she learned the funding would be late while checking the Ministry of Housing and Social Development web site which is responsible for gaming funds and where updates on gaming funds are normally posted.

“Usually when there is something major happening they send out a letter to the organizations but that hasn’t been happening lately,” Toop says.
