Vancouver: Buskers to serenade Granville strollers: Olympics’ success opens ‘green carpet’ to musicians 10 a.m. to midnight

Buskers rule.

At least that’s how visitors to Granville Street might feel this summer, starting with a buskers concert in the 700-block Granville tonight from 7 p.m. to midnight.

About 20 buskers will be performing at the concert on the new artificial “green carpet” that has been placed on Granville Street between West Georgia and Robson Streets.

Sanctioned by the City of Vancouver and the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, the concerts will be held on designated Friday nights during the summer.

The city has extended busking hours on Granville Street until midnight seven days a week from the usual shutdown time of 10 p.m. It now also allows battery-operated amplification in an attempt to liven up the downtown core and give more freedom to the buskers.
