Salmon Arm: Gallery forced to cut back

Popular newsletter no longer to appear in print. The Umbrella will be folded up and put online.

This is just one of the program changes Shuswap And District Arts Council officials are making following cuts to arts funding.

“As you know, this past year has been a difficult one for arts and culture in general and certainly for both the arts council and SAGA Public Art Gallery,” executive director Tracey Kutschker told city council last week. “Both organizations lost their direct access funding and an announcement made in January confirmed that cultural groups are no longer eligible for gaming grants.”

Kutschker added the blow would be a double whammy as she anticipates there will be a 50 per cent cut to BC Arts Council funding in the coming year, leaving the local organization with operating funds in the neighbourhood of only $5,000.
