Philanthropist Michael Audain among five from B.C. named to Order of Canada
Two medical doctors, a former federal privacy commissioner, an actor and an art-collecting property developer were the B.C. recipients of Order of Canada awards announced Wednesday by Gov.-Gen. Michaëlle Jean.
Fifty-seven individuals were given Order of Canada awards, including hockey legend Mario Lemieux and rock stars Neil Young and Burton Cummings.
Polygon Homes chairman Michael Audain of West Vancouver and former privacy commissioner Bruce Phillips of Okanagan Falls were named Officers of the Order of Canada, while actor Tantoo Cardinal, pediatrician Dr. John Godel and urologist Dr. Larry Goldenberg — all of Vancouver — were made Members of the Order of Canada.
Audain’s award was “for his contribution to visual arts in Canada, as a committed volunteer and philanthropist,” said the citation.
