Nanaimo: Outdoor art gallery offers unique and changing venue for Nanaimo artists
Tourists and residents alike are already leaving the beaten track to check out Nanaimo’s newest outdoor art gallery.
Three of nine temporary public art pieces have already caught the attention of passersby in Maffeo-Sutton and McGregor parks. The outdoor gallery project is a collaboration between the City of Nanaimo and the Nanaimo Art Gallery to animate the parks and create new landmarks along the Harbourfront Walkway. The remaining six sculptures will be installed by July 12.
Seven Nanaimo artists were chosen from the mix of applications after the city and gallery put a call out for submissions in February. The artwork will remain in the park for four months before it is auctioned off in October. The plan is to have an ever-changing art gallery year after year.
