Kelowna: City funds art projects with some hesitation

A bit of a struggle Monday afternoon for members of Kelowna City Council while considering the funding for two public art projects.

The Living Positive Resource Centre was asking for four thousand dollars for paintings aimed at showing the impacts of living with H-I-V.

The artwork would appear in the Kelowna Art Gallery, but would ultimately stay in the permanent possession of the artist themselves.

The other grant was 22-hundred dollars for the Cool Arts Society... for a temporary art project made of sand at Tugboat Bay.

Council approved both grants, but didn’t like that the works won’t stay in the public realm.

They’ve decided to review the criteria for public art grants at a future date.
