Kelowna: Alternator’s WAG fundraiser critical for survival
When the AlternatorArt Gallery’s director learned that the ‘Bitch Was Back,’ she had no choice but to move her gallery’s signature event deeper into the summer.
Elton John’s return to the city commands a touch of deference but more importantly, explained Jennifer Pickering, putting on the Wearable Art Gala at the same time guaranteed weak attendance—and there’s never been a year when the dollars the event brings in have been more important.
“This is a critical event for us…with the cuts to arts funding, it has a monumental importance,” she said.
“Money raised will have a real impact on our programming for the upcoming year and it affects how many artists we can support for exhibitions.”
