Help make mural in PoCo
Want to make your mark on the Shaughnessy Street underpass mural?
The Port Coquitlam Community Police Station and Leigh Square Community Arts Village are inviting local youth and the community to take part in the second phase of the mural project at a workshop June 22. Artist Bert Monterona, who completed the first phase, will help participants to create work that complements the themes of diversity, unity and peace already depicted on the west wall.
The underpass is a location that is repeatedly tagged by illegal graffiti. Artistic murals can act as a deterrent to future graffiti, enhance the aesthetics of a wall and get a community involved in graffiti prevention. The idea is based on a simple premise that graffiti taggers are less likely to tag a wall that is painted with mural art than one that is completely blank.
