Courtenay: Ten Valley students scoop performing arts festival awards

Two public concerts celebrated with gusto have brought the 33rd North Island Festival of Performing Arts (NIFPA) to a rousing conclusion.

Held in the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay, both the Festival Variety Showcase last Friday and the Festival Dance Gala on Saturday turned in to an exuberant celebration of talent.

“This was an opportunity for the students to give back, whole heartedly, to the community at large, to share their many talents, and to shine – and shine, they did,” said a festival director, Carol Martin.

Throughout February, hundreds of students of the performing arts from the Comox Valley, Campbell River, Qualicum, the Alberni Valley, Parksville, Nanoose Bay, Nanaimo, Port Hardy, Port McNeill, and Brentwood Bay all performed in front of adjudicators at the annual festival, held at the Sid Williams Theatre.
