Courtenay: Performing artists lining up for their turn in spotlight

February is a time for performers from the North Island to shine.

For the past two weeks, singers and musicians from the Valley and beyond have been participating in the North Island Festival of Performing Arts (NIFPA), which runs all month long at the Sid Williams Theatre.

An annual festival, the NIFPA features adjudicated performances in strings, speech arts, fiddle, piano, vocal and ballet, modern, stage and hip-hop dance.

Participants can be recommended by adjudicators, or judges, to compete in the annual Performing Arts BC Festival.

The NIFPA culminates in the Festival Variety Showcase Feb. 26 and the Festival Dance Gala Feb. 27.
