Burnaby: City approves new funding for festivals

Everybody loves a good party, and the City of Burnaby is no exception.

Council approved the executive committee’s Festivals Burnaby pilot project, which would see $670,000 per year from the gaming reserves fund put towards festivals and special events for the next three years.

“Festivals, parades, tournaments, games and special events all add to the sense of excitement and celebration in the community,” the report on the pilot project stated. “Special events help residents and visitors to experience more of our local and visiting talent and to help expand our understanding and appreciation of each other.”

The Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra concert in Deer Lake Park and Summer Sundays at Civic Square at Metrotown could all get financial support through the project.
