Beloved Babz takes final bow, and has the last word “Cancer is the opportunity we’ve been given to all be better at what we do. To be bigger of heart and greater of mind… God bless you all.”

They braved the morning rain Sunday, streaming into a Granville Island theatre wearing pins bearing Chula’s face and the simple message, “I (heart) Babz.”

Beloved Vancouver actor Babz Chula filled the seats at Arts Club Theatre for the last time Sunday, as family, friends and fans came out to honour the 63-year-old matriarch of Vancouver’s arts scene who died in her Coal Harbour home on May 7 after a nearly eight-year battle with cancer.

A veteran of the stage and screen and a tireless champion of independent theatre in Vancouver, Chula acted in more than a hundred films and television shows. She won awards for her on-screen performances as well as for her work at the Arts Club Theatre, TheatreSports and the Vancouver East Cultural Centre.

Internationally, Chula is best known for her roles in the films My American CousinThe Accused andDouble Jeopardy and on the small screen with roles in These Arms of Mine and The L-Word.
