B.C.’s arts and culture leaders look past the gloom and find reason for optimism
British Columbia’s arts and culture community has been in the headlines lately, and many of those headlines have taken a grim tone.
Last month, hundreds of arts groups learned they’d face budget cuts after the government slashed $25 million from a gambling grant program that helped to fund them.
To commemorate the arts this Thanksgiving weekend, The Vancouver Sun asked some high-profile leaders in the city’s arts and culture sector to look for the light beyond the gloom.
From the anxiety there emerges gratitude for the achievements of performing, visual and literary artists, for the power the arts has in awakening young people, and for the sheer diversity of our cultural environment.
