Arts council cuts staff: Organization will now rely solely on volunteers

The Delta Arts Council is being forced to take a big step backwards in its 40 year history promoting the arts in the community.

Last Friday, the decision was made to let go two full-time and one part-time staff members and become a solely volunteer-driven organization.

The decision comes in the wake of the provincial government’s budget cuts to arts programs across B.C.

“We just didn’t get our funding and we have to cut costs, so we’re cutting staff,” said executive director Lana Hart.
